Are you a passionate and experienced Social Worker ready to take on a leadership role in safeguarding and care planning? We’re working with a forward-thinking local authority in Greater Manchester looking for an Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join their dedicated Children's Services team. This is a fantastic opportunity to influence positive change, champion the voice of the child, and ensure that the highest standards of care and protection are consistently met for children across the region.

About the Role
As an IRO, you’ll play a critical role in upholding statutory responsibilities and safeguarding children in care. You’ll independently chair:
  • Initial and Review Child Protection Conferences
  • Children Looked After (CLA) Reviews
  • Foster Carer Annual Reviews
You’ll ensure all meetings take place within statutory timescales and that care plans are not only compliant but truly focused on delivering positive, sustainable outcomes for children and young people.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Ensuring the child’s voice is central in all planning and decision-making
  • Challenging and escalating concerns where standards fall short
  • Monitoring progress and outcomes of care plans
  • Working collaboratively with social workers, managers, families, and partner agencies
  • Promoting best practice and driving continuous improvement

About You
We’re looking for an experienced, assertive, and reflective professional who understands the importance of strong care planning and effective challenge.
You will need:
  • A recognised Social Work qualification (SW Degree, CQSW, DipSW or equivalent)
  • Registration with Social Work England
  • Minimum 4 years' post-qualified experience in Children's Social Care
  • Strong knowledge of Child Protection, Looked After Children procedures, and Fostering Regulations
  • Experience chairing meetings or panels with confidence and independence
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to challenge constructively, hold professionals to account, and influence change
A background in CIN, CP, CLA or LADO work is highly desirable.
