Job Description
Looking for grounded KS2 experience ahead of teacher training?
Deliver targeted help so pupils close gaps and keep pace with the class.
*** Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** £82 - £98 per day
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Selly Oak
*** Provide 1:1 and small group interventions across KS2
The Role:
You will plan and deliver short intervention blocks that line up with what pupils meet in lessons. In reading, you will develop fluency, vocabulary and inference with matched texts and quick checks for understanding. In writing, you will model sentence structure, paragraphing and edits that tighten accuracy. In maths, you will secure place value, the four operations, fractions and problem solving through clear worked examples and guided practice. You will pre-teach key terms before new units, use retrieval to keep knowledge fresh, and record brief outcomes after each session so next steps are clear. You will keep resources organised, maintain calm starts and tidy transitions, and work closely with the class teacher and, where needed, the SENCO.
The Candidate & Requirements:
You explain ideas in small, clear steps and keep sessions purposeful. You notice gaps early and build independence steadily.
- Degree, 2:2 or above in any subject.
- Communication, confident written and spoken English.
- Enhanced DBS, already held or willingness to obtain.
- Strong interest in working with children and supporting progress across KS2.
- Experience supporting children is desirable but not essential.
The School:
This ‘Good’ Selly Oak primary runs consistent routines from arrival to home time. Reading has daily guided practice with explicit vocabulary work. Maths is taught in small, connected steps with frequent low-stakes checks so methods remain consistent between classes. Year teams co-plan and share model texts, worked examples and ready-to-use intervention packs, which keeps preparation efficient and ensures your sessions align with the curriculum. New colleagues receive a clear induction, weekly bite-size CPD and focused coaching so impact is visible quickly.
How to Apply
Apply through the job advert with your CV. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief call and an in-school observation. Roles may close early if filled.
Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
