Job Description

KS2 Graduate Teaching Assistant

Ready to focus on Year 6 outcomes?

Help pupils secure core knowledge and strong exam habits before SATs.

*** KS2 Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £82 - £101 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Yardley
*** 1:1 and small group SATs preparation in Year 6

The Role:
You will run tightly planned boosters that plug straight into the Year 6 sequence. You will pre-teach upcoming content, model answer structures, and rehearse timing for arithmetic, reasoning and reading papers. You will diagnose gaps quickly with short checks, fix misconceptions in fractions, decimals, percentages and multi-step problems, and build fluency through retrieval, mini-quizzes and timed drills. You will guide pupils to annotate questions, use mark-scheme cues and plan responses, then feed gains back into class tasks. You will keep concise impact notes after each session, update simple trackers, and agree next steps with the class teacher each week so intervention aligns with assessments and deadlines.

The Candidate & Requirements:
You communicate clearly, organise sessions efficiently and keep pupils focused under time pressure. You spot errors early, break tasks into small steps and build independence without over-prompting.

  • Degree, 2:2 or above in any subject.
    • Communication, strong written and spoken English.
    • Enhanced DBS, held already or willingness to obtain.
    • Desire to work in education/with children, commitment to KS2 progress.
    • Experience working with children, relevant experience is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This ‘Good’ Yardley primary is three-form entry with calm, predictable routines and protected intervention time in Year 6. Reading has daily guided practice with explicit vocabulary work. Maths is mapped in small, connected steps with regular low-stakes checks so methods are consistent across classes. Year teams co-plan and share model texts, worked examples, past-paper item banks and lean revision packs, which keeps preparation efficient and ensures your boosters dovetail with whole-class teaching. New colleagues receive a structured induction, weekly bite-size CPD and short coaching drop-ins with precise next moves, giving you strong conditions to show impact quickly and build evidence for teacher training.
