Location: Cheshire East Council
Hours: 37 hours per week
Rate: £25.18 per hour
Job Purpose We are recruiting on behalf of Cheshire East Council for a Basic Grade Occupational Therapist to join their Adult Services team.
The successful candidate will assess the needs of people in the community who are ill or have disabilities, helping them achieve greater independence and remain safely in their homes through specialist equipment, adaptations, and professional advice.
Principal Responsibilities
- Assess the needs of service users for the provision of material assistance, such as equipment or home adaptations, considering diagnosis and prognosis.
- Provide accurate information and advice to service users, families, and carers.
- Complete assessments for individuals returning from hospital or nursing care to facilitate safe discharge through suitable equipment or adaptations.
- Where appropriate, source funding from other agencies such as charities, NHS, or Social Services.
- Work closely with architects and service users to review and approve adaptation plans to ensure the best outcomes.
- Liaise effectively with partner agencies — including Housing, NHS, and voluntary organisations — to maximise communication and service coordination.
- Negotiate with service users and agencies to determine the most appropriate and cost-effective solutions, mindful of budgetary constraints.
- Verify that completed adaptations meet assessed needs and, if required, provide additional equipment for optimal use.
- Assess for and arrange the provision of specialist equipment to alleviate the effects of disability.
- Stay up to date with developments in Occupational Therapy equipment and liaise with suppliers to ensure appropriate products are used.
- Maintain and apply specialist knowledge in moving and handling techniques, supporting and training care staff when required.
- Identify service users who would benefit from rehabilitation and refer them to appropriate services.
- Pursue ongoing professional development and maintain an up-to-date portfolio in line with HCPC registration requirements.
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC Registration
- Previous Social Services experience
