Role: Raw Materials Compliance Controller
Office Location: Redditch
Salary: £30,000 - £35,000
Shift: Days
The key responsibilities of the Compliance Controller role will be:
- Manage and maintain the supplier approval system for all raw materials (ingredients and packaging).
- Communicate effectively with suppliers to obtain and verify technical documentation and compliance.
- Review and approve suppliers and raw materials by assessing:
- Supplier Assurance Questionnaires (SAQs)
- HACCP, TACCP, VACCP documentation
- Certifications and accreditations
- Product specifications
- Food safety, allergen, ethical, and integrity risks
Feed risk findings into overall assessments to determine approval status and intake monitoring requirements.
- Define and agree raw material quality standards in line with finished product expectations.
- Ensure accurate supply chain mapping is maintained for all relevant materials.
- Collaborate closely with NPD and Purchasing teams to ensure customer codes of practice and internal standards are met.
- Provide cover for the Raw Material Technologist during periods of absence.
- Support the Site Integrity Team through horizon scanning, risk monitoring, recording insights, and implementing mitigation actions.
- Develop monitoring schedules based on material risk assessments.
- Ensure compliance with intake monitoring checks for all raw materials, ingredients, and packaging.
- Maintain full traceability of supplied goods. Support traceability audits and implement improvements where non-conformances are found. Act as part of the site traceability team during internal and external audits.
- Contribute to the site HACCP team, raising material-related food safety concerns that may impact the HACCP plan.
- Investigate non-conforming ingredients or packaging, quarantining materials as necessary and collaborating with production teams to resolve issues.
- Work with Quality Assurance to support complaint investigations and root cause analysis where raw materials may be involved.
The key requirements of the Compliance Controller role will be:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word and Outlook
- Fluent in English with strong written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail
- Experience working in a technical role within the food industry or a higher education qualification in Food Science (or related discipline)
- HACCP Level 2 (or higher) – training available if required
- Food Safety Level 2 (or higher) – training available if required
- Internal Auditor training – training can be provided by BEF
- Confident working with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) on a daily basis
